Stimulating Seminars - March to May 2011
“Exploring the role of the solo artist
in Dave and Nick’s world”
Thursday March 3rd, from 6pm, the Newton Lecture Theatre
Artists' Voice
& Nottingham Trent University present
a Live Lecture, illustrating artistic practice
With Chris Dobrowlski
Chris has a love hate relationship with the art world. He is very much on the outside of it. Inevitably, however the references in his work rely upon the upon the very art world he despises. Paradox also plays an important role in his creative process.
Primarily a maker but un-commercial, his work is more often disseminated through performance lectures than through art galleries. He has been artist in residence with the British Antarctic Survey, visiting lecturer at Ruskin School of drawing and Fine Art Oxford University and was once deceived into working for the M.W.R. (the welfare department of the U.S. military).
While you cannot ignore a tank made out of Constable reproductions rolling over the gentle hills of Suffolk, Dobrowolski’s smaller-scale works also share the same inventiveness. Jessica Kenny, Gallery Director, University of Essex.
Chris describes himself as ‘an anti-art artist plus, plus, plus - to infinity’
