STAND UP, SPEAK UP!

STAND UP

SPEAK UP!

(How to survive in Dave and Nick's world.)

An Artists' Voice event on Friday 10 June 2011 in Leicester.

What have you got to say that makes you want to stand up and shout about it?

How are you surviving in Dave and Nick's world?

What challenges do you face?

What's the alternative?

Are you surviving?

What are you going to do about it?

How can you demonstrate your right to stand up and object?

What would a world without artists look like, sound like, feel like?

How would you respond to it?

You have 10 minutes to show us and provoke others, to say what you really want to say about it!

It can take any dynamic form.

Fee: £100 (to include planning, delivery and any other costs)

6 proposals will be selected.

To apply, email your proposal (no more than one side A4) to sallemanda@hotmail.com

Deadline Friday 20th May.

NEVER MIND THE ROYALS! WHAT ABOUT OUR FUTURE?!!

Friday 29th April, 2pm - 6pm @ The Place of Welcome, Queen Street, Derby

We like this! An Open Space on the holiday called so we can join in the Royal celebrations (or not).

Poll suggest that 20-30% of us want a republic, which means a good few more are ambivalent. Time for debate.

Bring a bottle. Refreshments available.

Goal 5

At Nottingham Contemporary. Lots of people in a room talking about young people's voice... I said 'We, not you and us'.

There was talk of 'instilling' - can/ should we do that? Can't we learn from each other and celebrate each other's perspective with equity?

And the interest from other parts of East Midlands is refreshing. So let's get the soapboxes dusted off and see you all next time.

There is an Alternative

How come property is more important than people? and big corporations are exempt from stuff the poor have to obey? and it's ok to raise fear in people who are watching? Artists Voice needs to start shouting now, talking is too quiet and unlikely to be heard.

artists voice: The Uncut Society - an unconference event and work...

I went to the UNCUT Conference, sat round a vast table and shared personal impacts of the cuts. Met Helen from Lincoln and we will devise an AIR event in a couple of months. Listened to Anna from TUC and their take on the cuts... It felt very fired up. I wish AV could be as passionate. Last Friday was low key but interesting to facilitate and observe. Maybe the power is not in the numbers but in the strength of feeling. And I feel very strongly......

The Uncut Society - an unconference event and workshop

10 - 4.00pm Saturday 5th March, at MadLab Edge Street, Manchester

Littoral Arts Trust and Madlab have brought together an 'unconference' - a day for everyone active in the arts to share thoughts about current events and act in a more determined way than perhaps has been the case in the last few years.

Not much information on the streets yet, but keep an eye on http://madlab.org.uk.

The State of the Arts

The RSA, with Arts Council England and others, brought together a fine group of interested parties, including government ministers, to look at where we are now, after several decades of significant growth and changes to our arts system that have been remarkable.

Find out more on the RSA site. It's a puzzle to navigate but the provocations are worth looking at.

hearing voices

If we have something to say, we need to be heard otherwise we are just silent movement. In order to be noticed we need to be seen otherwise we are invisible. If we want to make a difference we need to be something different otherwise we get lost in the crowd swimming in the wrong direction.

Welcome

Welcome to Artists Voice.

AV is a small group of artists and creative people from across the arts. Our mission is to build a dialogue between artists and society in general, that creates in turn, opportunities for artists to flourish.
